This is the time of year when the schedule gets hectic and the holidays seem to build on each other until we reach the mother of all holidays... Christmas. Every year you vow to get your shopping done early and every year you are rushing around the week before Christmas trying frantically to get everything done. You exclaim “I love the hustle and bustle” but in reality it is really just causing stress and turmoil. This year can be different! Take one afternoon to prepare now and you will be amazed at the difference it makes. · Make a list of those for whom you need to shop. Be sure to add at least one charitable organization. · Write your spending limit by each name. · Write down 2-3 ideas for each person. · Start shopping now—online. Look for free shipping deals and discounts. · Check to see if you can have items delivered at work to avoid peeking eyes at home. · Hit the clearance racks. There is no shame is saving money. · Commit to having a stress-free Christmas this year. Keeping it Organized · Update your list as items arrive or are purchased. You will be surprised at how quickly you are able to check them off. · Set aside a small space in your home for the gifts you have purchased. · Choose 1 day per month between now and Christmas to wrap and tag the items you purchased. · Divide the number of people on your list by the number of weeks until Thanksgiving. This determines the pace. Working between now and Thanksgiving gives you a little wiggle room and helps you avoid the long lines and priority shipping costs. · Stick to the schedule! When you are watching those holiday movies in front of the fire with your family this year… You will be glad that you did. |
